El diario El País (España) publico el día 3 de noviembre de 2005 un reportaje que titulaba “Expedición al volcán desconocido” en el que se informaba de que unos científicos españoles iban a hacer una expedición a un volcán de Guinea Ecuatorial.

Esto, con toda probabilidad, no es cierto y así lo atestiguan testimonios como el de Andy Maykuth que en su blog el día 2 de diciembre de 2005 muestra su extrañeza al ver a Ignacio Martín diciendo que es el primero en llegar a la Caldera de Luba. Igualmente en el mismo sentido expediciones españolas de los años cincuenta y sesenta.
